Imagine being awakened by the
call of the loon in time to see the sunrise display its glory on the shimmering
water of one of your favorite lakes of the Whitefish Chain of Lakes.
This breathtaking sight and
many others await you, at your dream home, in the Minnesota Lake Country. Your
days will be filled with water sports such as fishing, boating, water skiing;
swimming or touring on your personal water-craft. You can canoe or kayak the
Pine River beginning at Trout Lake and proceeding through Lower Whitefish, Rush
Lake and on to Crosslake, the city, located on the shore of Cross Lake. Or you
can choose to follow the route from Lower Whitefish Lake to Upper Whitefish
Lake and ending on Lower Hay Lake, Bertha or Clamshell Lake.
Off the water you can choose
to lounge in the sun, shop the many specialty shops, tour the Paul Bunyan
Recreation Trail on foot, bicycle or in-line skates, drive the Paul Bunyan
Scenic Byway to see breath-taking sights and visit local historical sites, in
the rural settings of Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point, Crosslake, Jenkins, Manhatten
Beach, Fifty Lakes, Ideal Corners and Pine River. You will find shopping,
dining, movie theaters, bowling, and the Paul Bunyan Amusement Park in near-by
Brainerd-Baxter.
The area's golf courses are
nationally known to be some of the best in the country. The area offers some of
the highest standards of living available. The public school districts are
exceptional, as are the private schools. Central Lakes College offers Associate
Degrees in many areas, as well at partnering with St. Scholastica in Duluth to
offer a Bachelor's Degree right here in the area.
In the evening you can enjoy
the breath-taking beauty of the sunset from the deck of your lake home or
cabin, or any of the many dining facilities located up north on the lake. In
the winter you can enjoy all of this beauty blanketed in clean, pristine snow
from your snowmobile, snowshoes or the area's many Cross Country Ski Trails,
here in this winter wonderland.
If you've never investigated the Crosslake area, you're in for a treat! Whatever you are looking for in recreation can be found here. The Whitefish Chain, with several interconnecting waterways, is at the center of it all. Famous for boating, fishing, and swimming beaches, the Whitefish Chain encompasses over 10,000 acres of liquid fun. Lakes such as Whitefish, Cross, Trout, Rush, Bertha, Hay, Island, Clamshell, Arrowhead, Loon and Daggett attract visitors world-wide. Summer activities will find locals and guests enjoying the Antique Boat Parade on Trout Lake, the Independence Day Fireworks off Sand Island and several fine restaurants found at waters' edge. If you're into people (or boat!) watching, stop into Ye Olde Wharf, located between Whitefish and Rush Lakes, for a beverage on the deck and enjoy the steady stream of watercraft floating by.
Once the boat is back in the lift, you might kick up a divot on one of the area's world-class golf courses. We may golf only 6 months of the year, but that hasn't stopped famous golf pro's from putting their mark on the area. Deacon's Lodge in Breezy Point designed by Arnold Palmer, The Legacy at Craguns designed by Trent Jones, and The Preserve mark just some of the best courses in the area. Not quite a pro? Then the local courses might be where you tee up. The Whitefish Golf Club, Breezy Point Classic Course, and Crosswoods Golf Course in Crosslake are all visually stunning, and perfect for "the rest of us".
Then again, there is always shopping, shopping, and more shopping. Crosslake is filled with unique gift, clothing and specialty shops. When you're ready for a break, stop in for ice cream at the Dairy Queen or one of Moonlight Bay's famous steak sandwiches served on the lakeside patio. Go dancing to live music at The Exchange, or enjoy a quiet dinner at Riverside Inn. Just a few miles away are Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point, all of which offer a fun way to spend an afternoon - or evening!. Brainerd isn't far away offering 2 malls with more traditional shopping including department stores such as JC Penny, Herbergers and Kohls along with discount marts such as Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Fleet Farm and Menards.
Still looking for more to do? Then slap on your ear guards and head for BIR, also known as the Brainerd International Raceway. Several races highlight the summer schedule with Funny Car, Stock Car and Drag Races. Or take the afternoon to skate, walk or bike down the Paul Bunyan Bike & Hiking trail. In a prior life it was the Burlington Northern Railway, now paved from Brainerd to Bemidji. All along the route you'll find towering trees, beautiful lake views and accommodating rest areas. And if snow is covering the landscape, get on your sled and ride! We have miles of groomed snowmobile trails that crisscross from one side of the area to the other and back again. Enter the time trials at the Breezy Point Ice Fest held every January to compete against the fastest sleds in the area. A little off beat in a truly Minnesotan way, the Ice Auger competition at Ice Fest is fast becoming a local favorite. It's just as it sounds. Who can drill a hole in the ice the fastest? Classes include stock and modified. Not into all that noise? Then enjoy the quiet solitude of the cross-country ski trails. There are several forests and preserves that cater to the skiers who enjoy gliding along a path of new-fallen snow. We haven't forgotten those who prefer to do their skiing vertically. Ski Gull isn't exactly the Alps, but it's our collection of fun downhill slopes for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
The Crosslake area is growing and there is no indication that the trend will change. In recent years we've seen an increase in property values unlike anything before. If you've ever thought about moving to this beautiful part of Central Minnesota, now is the time to buy! Historically, land has always been a great investment and Crosslake and the surrounding areas are no exceptions. In addition to seeing the value of your investment increase, you get the added pleasure of using your property.
Whatever you're dreaming of can be found here. Bill Grunewald at Edina Realty can help you find beautiful sandy shores and more! Just give him a call for information on homes currently for sale.
